Tokyo Motor Show 2005: Nissan GTR Proto

December 27th, 2005 Comments(0)

Proto! Some steamy close-ups of the new Nissan GTR Proto. As you can see, the style has changed a bit; the headlights more sleek. The curves more sensual. Nissan announced the Proto will hit the road in 2007. I guess we’ll see in about a year. Although it still looks a bit heavy to me, it’s quite a car and it drew large crowds of ‘oooh’s and ‘aaah’s.. There aren’t any girls in this clip as there wasn’t enough room on stage.. The car was able to speak for itself.

FOMA P2101V Video Cell Phone Debut

December 13th, 2005 Comments(0)

CYou!Docomo introduces the FOMA P2101V. This was over three years ago so nothing was on the market at the time. There were a lot of bugs with the phone at first and using the video function was expensive, but there was enough curiousity to keep it going strong. They still have the FOMA series, and from what I know, they sell well. I believe the price for the video transfer has reduced a bit too.. I wanted this video to capture the futuristic, space-age, Blade Runner feeling. The shots from the window in the beginning are at Shibuya crossing. See the next version of this phone here; the FOMA P2102V video.

Tokyo Motor Show 2005: Toyota Fine X

December 10th, 2005 Comments(0)

Arse!A short, fast-paced video of some attractive new chasis coming out of Japan. There are some booth girls, but I also capture the photographers flashing and gawking.. Oh, and there’s a car as well; the Toyota Fine X concept car. It spins like a festival tea cup ride.. Guess for people who can’t make three-point turns..

Robodex Montage

December 10th, 2005 Comments(1)

Robots!A video montage of the sites and sounds at a typical robot expo in Japan. Engineers from all over display their inventions and share their dreams. Most of the Japanese robots tend to be more cute than practical, but cute sells here; Cute creates interest among the general public, which in turn, funds the robot enthusiasts.. In Japan, ‘cute’ is cash..

Sony SDR-4X Robo Chi

December 10th, 2005 Comments(5)

Chi Chi!My first video of the Sony SDR-4X. At the time, I believe this was the SDR-3X.. I wanted robot enthusiasts to be able to see the way the little robot moved in slow motion; I think it’s better for learning purposes. It’s a simple, short, and quiet clip but still one of our most popular. I’ve dubbed it Robo Chi, because it looks like the Sony is doing Tai Chi..

Asimos Playing, Chasing, and Fighting

December 10th, 2005 Comments(0)

Give Me Girl! Two Honda Asimos play a bit of soccer, climb up some stairs, and shadow box on a platform. One chases a girl around the arena to show off it’s ability to ’see’ objects and movement. The last shot of the clip gives an example of what Asimo ’sees’. It reminds of the Terminator; registering someones height, angle of the arms, and movement speed in a computerized brain interface..

Sony SDR-4X Dancers

December 10th, 2005 Comments(0)

Scary Cute! This video gives you a good idea of the Sony robot’s size. They’re not big; about the size of a portly reeses monkey. Five robots dance on stage, do the hula, and shuffle their feet. I think the best shots are of the assistants placing them on stage then turning them on.

Robot Evolution

December 09th, 2005 Comments(0)

Evolve!A little artsy flick showing my interpretation of how robots would’ve ‘evolved’; reptilian, seated and upright, then bipedal. Although I find it a tad cheesy now, the video has been popular over time. There are some good shots of the serpant robot, with it’s small spinning drive train and ability to roll over and climb obstacles.

Epson Mini Robot Stage Show

December 04th, 2005 Comments(0)

Robotic Ants!Filmed at one of the robot expos in Yokohama; Robodex Robot Expo. These little robots from Epson are supposedly able to navigate themselves, are sensitive to light, and can be programmed to dance in a group. This video demonstrates their abilities and starts with a cute little choreographed dancing stage show..

Tokyo Motor Show 2003: Motor Queens

December 03rd, 2005 Comments(0)

Look!I always thought it was strange, in an interesting sort of way, that the events girls at the Tokyo Motor Shows would attempt to give each photographer a few seconds of attention; showing all their ranges of expressions in a short period of time; sultry, innocent, aggressive, and demure all in five seconds. I’m sure in photos it looks fine, but on video and in person, it always looked a little strange; like the girls suffer from mild turrets or multiple personality disorders..
