TDV Reports: Three Asimos Attack!

May 28th, 2008 Comments(0)

Asimos Attack! Now in XDV! (Xceptional DV)

Some close-ups of Asimo’s ankle joints, tinted face shield, and knees.

The lighting was strange/futuristic and the fluid/freaky motions of Asimo made this an intriguing clip; still one of my personal favorites. Shot at one of the Robodex Expos in Yokohama, Japan.

Originally released in 2002.

Vidicle: A Publisher in the Shadows

May 18th, 2008 Comments(0)

Soapland!Something I just started working on. I call them ‘Vidicles’; video previews of written articles.

Since the YouTube ‘revolution’ has expanded the definition of ‘online video’ - (talking heads pointlessly babbling in front of a camera? This is entertainment?) I thought; ‘why not make videos of someone reading well written, captivating articles’? In this case, that ’someone’ is my computer, and the ‘well written article’ is from Captain Japan.

Watch this vidicle preview of his recent article: A Publisher in the Shadows:

Hiroharu Kimura dresses in black: sport jacket, shoes, socks, slacks, and gold-rimmed sunglasses. Aside from his blue dress shirt, his attire follows the vampire bat trademark used for his sex-trade publication Manzoku, meaning satisfaction.

“Bats cannot see,” says the chairman of Creators Company Connection, reclining in the sofa of his office in Tokyo’s Okubo district, “but they have a special sense.”

Indeed, Kimura operates his business - printing magazines that cater to Japan’s sexual services and hostessing industries - by feel.. READ THE FULL STORY!

Japanese Catfight Slapping

April 22nd, 2007 Comments(0)

Slap!Hhhmm.. What can I say? This is a staged ‘cat fight’ between two women wearing little clothing. The action is pretty fake, but sort of entertaining; some of the wrestling positions they find themselves in are rather ridiculous.

Lots of slapping, bending, rolling, swinging, kicking, and twitching.

The video also features some sort of creature with a beetle head and hypnotic torpedo tits.. The clip is short, sweet and leaves a bitter after-taste.. Music is also a TokyoDV creation.

TDV Reports: Japanese Violin Babes

April 21st, 2007 Comments(0)

Fiddles! While wandering around on press day at the opening of Tokyo Midtown, I stumbled onto this ‘performance’ at one of the shops..

To be honest, I don’t remember the shops name or even what they were selling; seemed like jewelry or something.

An attractive woman approached me as I was filming the hardwood floor outside her shop; “Would you like to see a performance?”.. “Uhh, yeah. What kind?”.. “These girls will play.”.. “Uhh, ok. Can I film?”.. “Yes, please.”.. I wasn’t sure what kind of ‘performance’, but the girls were cute.

Anyway, this description is longer than the video clip, so just watch it; it’s nothing special but sort of ‘interesting’.. I have no idea why this piano was accompanying these three young violinists, but the music is Vivaldi’s Spring, from Four Seasons.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 02nd, 2007 Comments(0)

Love!Valentine’s Day is unique in Japan; only women give gifts and chocolates. The men give white chocolate one month later; ‘White Day’ on March 14th..

Seems strange, but I guess it helps men avoid any social mistakes of what to give to whom. Although, I think it mainly has to do with chocolate companies creating another lucrative holiday.

This video doesn’t have much to do with Japanese Valentine’s Day, but it was released around then. I ’stumbled’ into an adult shop and filmed some of the items on sale. You’ll see magic mushrooms, which are now illegal, and other various types of stimulants. There are also some shots of love hotels, both inside and out.

I wanted the clip to represent, what I hoped to be, a typical Valentine’s Day in Japan.. After chocolate, there’s sex, drugs, and love hotels.

Japan’s Coming of Age Day

January 07th, 2007 Comments(2)

Coming!Sometime in early January, Japan celebrates twenty-year-olds becoming adults. Coming of Age Day is time for them to dress up in kimonos, gather at the local city hall, and listen to bureaucrats tell them how important ‘adults’ are.

The new adults usually get drunk before, after, and sometimes during the ceremony since they’re now legal drinking age. They can also vote at the age of twenty, so in this clip we see some right-wing black busses shouting their opinions to the newly christened voters. The wing-nuts don’t like Communists, kissing in public, or parked cars in their way.

This Coming of Age Day is probably like any other; kimonos, rabbit suits, and big black busses..

Japanese Personal Christmas

December 20th, 2006 Comments(1)

Merry!Rob Pongi helps needy young Japanese ladies find the spirit of Christmas past; Eating KFC and strawberry short-cake, strolling among the illuminations, and ‘resting’ in love hotels.. Everyone knows the proper way to celebrate Christmas in Japan is on a date.

Rob reads personal ads while the snow flies, the music beeps, the girls sway, and his balls dangle; “It is the high school girl living in Kyoto, in Japan.”..

Shibuya Paradise: Digiko Girls

August 19th, 2006 Comments(2)

Taut!On my way to another shoot in Yoyogi Park, I stumbled upon the Digiko Girls ‘performing’ outside Hachiko exit in Shibuya.

The sun glistened off their shiny black boots as they squeeked out their latest tune..

No one seemed to mind they couldn’t sing since they provided colorful energy on an otherwise monotonous day.

TDV Street Fashion: Fashion Fight!

June 25th, 2006 Comments(1)

Squirt Guns! Two girls play frisbee one afternoon, then end up fighting, wrestling, and shooting each other with squirt guns.. What can I say? This is Japan. ;)

We had a lot of fun shooting this clip. I rented a Cube car, bought a six pack of beers, and brainstormed different shooting ideas. The video is still quite popular.. I’m not sure why.. Well, yeah. I know why.
