Kodak E-Revolution 2002: Mini OLED Screens

April 22nd, 2006 Comments(0)

Oh-LED!A short video clip of some mini OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) screens, apparently designed for cell phones.

Actually, at the dislplay booth, I thought I remembered reading these displays were prototype plasma screens, but my memory could be failing me; I couldn’t find anything online regarding plasma cell phone displays.. The crisp clarity of the video images on the tiny screens make it hard for me to believe they’re OLED..

This clip is from 2002, and it appears the Sanyo/Kodak OLED team has since been disbanded.. “Under a deal worked out between the two companies, Sanyo will first buy Kodak’s stake in the venture then shut it down.” - CDR Info

TDV Street Fashion: Punks in Suits

April 16th, 2006 Comments(0)

Punkers!A couple punks in suits hanging out in Harajuku. They were outside Gap, on the corner. It didn’t look like they were doing much besides window shopping and people watching.. From the snazzy duds they were wearing, it appeared they were out to be watched as well. For one, it was his first time in a suit.. He looked dapper and the material impressive.. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch the brand..

In the video, we learn where they like to shop and what they plan on buying for the coming summer..

KOMADORI Bros. T-Shirt: Grab One Today!

April 09th, 2006 Comments(0)

Grab! The KOMADORI Bros. came out with a custom designed t-shirt a few years ago. I asked if I could sell it on TokyoDV. They obliged, so I had another excuse to ask Toku-chan to be my t-shirt model; she fills out shirts perfectly, making them irresistible.. She was one of the models for the TokyoDV clothing line video, Fashion Fight!

I’m not sure if the concept of this short video is apparent, but it came out basically how I wanted.. Woman looks seductively into camera searching for something. Woman gets surprised, grabs what is most precious to her; her t-shirt..

I still have a few KOMADORI shirts lying around, so you can order them here. The quality is great and design original..

TDV Feature: KOMADORI Bros. - Gundam You!

April 09th, 2006 Comments(0)

Gundam!NHK had a program called Digital Stadium where amature artists submit and show their work. I was really impressed with the KOMADORI Bros.; they were both internationally understandable and culturally insightful. Bizzare little stories with a touch of humor..

Gundam is influential in a lot of KOMADORI’s work; Ohashi-san is a huge Gundam fan. In this video, the Brothers climb into big, Gundam versions of themselves and battle it out with katanas and finger ray-guns.. It’s hard to explain..

Hanami Season: Blossom Viewing at Kinuta

April 02nd, 2006 Comments(0)

Cherries!I went to Kinuta Park for Hanami this weekend. Hanami means ‘cherry blossom viewing’.. It was better than I expected; I despise crowded places, but Kinuta has enough space to allow everyone enough room. The trees were huge and the weather perfect.

Kinuta Park has an interesting history; I believe it was a Japanese military base first, then a US base, then a golf course, and now a park. Although, I can’t yet find a reference to back up my claim. It’s unique because it’s a Japanese park that actually has nice grass.. I suppose dirt parks are easier to maintain..

The video is nothing special, but it gives you a feel for Hanami Season; blue tarps, family activities, alcohol, and pink blossoms.. Oh, and random announcements of lost children.

Fertility Festival: Fertilizing the Steel Phallus (rr)

April 02nd, 2006 Comments(0)

Worship!Originally published last year, but since this weekend is the Kawasaki Fertility Festival I thought a rerun was in order.

The original post explains: “Rob Pongi shows us the sites and sounds of one of Japan’s Shinto Fertility Festivals in Kawasaki. Reminding us of the 11th Commandment; Thou Shalt Worship Penis..”

Fertility Festival: Auction, Karaoke, Sake

April 02nd, 2006 Comments(0)

Grow!Another video from the Kawasaki Fertility Festival, also known as the Kanamara Matsuri.

The clip has mainly b-roll stuff thrown together: penis and vagina daikon auction, white sake drinking, live outdoor karaoke, etc.. The whole experience is a bit hard to explain.

One gaijin starts rockin’ with the Japanese band, singing ‘Go Johnny, Go, Go, Go’. The ending is cheesy, but everyone needs a little cheese now and then. ;)

Fertility Festival: Taiko Throbbing

April 02nd, 2006 Comments(0)

Ball!Since the Kawasaki Fertility Festival was this weekend, I decided to review some clips I made a few years ago.

Here we see a female Taiko group beat their drums to encourage fertility.. Taiko drums are impressive live; you can feel the pounding penetrate your lungs and go right through you.

The rhythm of this beating was perfect for the Fertility Festival; quick, constant, pounding, pulsating.. throbbing. ;)
