Gundam is influential in a lot of KOMADORI work; Ohashi-san is a huge Gundam fan. In this video, the Brothers climb into big, Gundam versions of themselves and battle it out with purple light-sabers and finger-ray guns..

One of the shows at Baan Boran in Koh Samui, Thailand. The Baan Boran serves fancy Thai dishes while you watch traditional Thai dances.

This particular routine is called Khon (Thai Classical Masked Play):

“This scene has been picked from the episode of Nang Loi (The Floating Lady); the demon-king Ravana needs to end the battle (Yuddha Kanda). He demands Nang Benjakaya transform into Princess Sita’s dead corpse floating before the royal pavilion of Prince Rama.

But Hanuman is curious and beseeches to test the corpse with fire. Nang Benjakaya cannot stand the heat and attempts to flee, but Hanuman captures her to present before Rama.

This scene is reputed for courting, apprehending, poetry, music, and dance; the entertainment of entrapment between the two characters.”.

I was so impressed with a KOMADORI Bros. video clip on NHKs Digital Stadium, I just had to track them down.

At the time, they were International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences. We exchanged emails, drank beers, and shared DV stories. I asked if I could present their work to an international audience on TOKYODV. They were excited about the exposure, and I was honored to show their art.

From NHKs website, when this video debuted – “Ohashi and Okamoto graduated from the International Academy of Media Arts and Sciences…

NHK had a program called Digital Stadium where amateur multimedia artists submit their work to be shown nationally. I was really impressed with the KOMADORI Bros.; they were both internationally understandable and culturally insightful. Bizzare little stories with a touch of humor.

In this clip, the Bros. play a friendly game of ‘Jan ken pon’, also known as ‘Rock paper scissors’..

Komadori has two meanings; a type of bird and stop-action. The Bros. use stop-action animation in most of their videos, especially this one..
